Palladio Home & Garden is paying it forward this fall with an Amy Carlisle Painting Giveaway benefiting Milla’s House. Palladio showrooms will sell Good Grief stationery card packs or Voyage to the Star Kingdom by Anne Riley, and illustrated by Amy Grimes, for $26.
Each $26 purchase is an entry in the drawing for the painting. The drawing for the painting My Mother’s Heart for Church by Amy Carlisle will occur November 18th, leading up to Childhood Grief Awareness Day, November 21, 2019. All proceeds of the purchases of these items are donated to Milla’s House.
View this beautiful painting at Palladio Antiques (2169 Central Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38104) and purchase drawing entries or make donations at Palladio Antiques and Palladio Interiors (2215 Central Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38104), now through mid-November. Baptist Grief Counseling
‘Good Grief’ started in 1999 as the first grief camp for children. The needs of the community demanded more, leading to expansion into teen and adult camps. Later, the first comprehensive grief center opened in 2005. The Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief opened in Collierville in 2010. In 2017, two more grief center locations, Milla’s House in Midtown Memphis and NEA Baptist Center for Good Grief in Jonesboro, Arkansas, were added to serve more of our Mid-south community. Our region is blessed to have this unique resource of masters trained counselors serving grieving families at multiple counseling centers and summer camps, funded by generous donations of caring patrons!
Milla’s House is a Baptist Center for Good Grief location in Midtown Memphis that opened in August 2017. The Center is named in memory of Milla Gieselmann, the daughter of Memphis couple Frazer and Dana Gieselmann. Milla passed away at age six after testing positive for Batten disease. Batten disease is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. The Gieselmanns’ youngest daughter, Elle, also tested positive for Batten disease and recently passed away in May 2019 at age seven. The Gieselmann’s oldest daughter, Ann Carlyle, tested negative for Batten disease and is healthy. Since Milla’s diagnosis, The Gieselmanns have relied heavily on the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief. The Center continues to be essential to the complicated and messy journey through grief for both the Gieselmann’s friends and family. This led to the Gieselmann’s involvement with opening a Midtown Center for Good Grief in 2017.
The Memphis community has benefited greatly from the Center for Good Grief, and it is our great pleasure to have the opportunity to support the opening of the Midtown location, while also honoring our daughter Milla. Her short life of six years touched so many. Our hope is that Milla’s House will provide the help our community needs to deal with the reality of living in a broken world.” – Dana Gieselmann on the opening of Milla’s House.
Artist Amy Carlisle was a dental hygienist, just a few years ago. One impactful day, a tearful patient, Dana Gieselmann, was in for routine cleaning. The Gieselmanns had just received their daughter’s positive test result for Batten disease. Dana shared her daughter’s story, and Amy was so moved that she immediately prayed over Dana. Amy went home that evening to consider what she could do for this family, who had just received such heavy news. Amy turned to her creative outlet of painting to help raise money for the Gieslemanns. Inspired by her faith, the Gieselmann family, and by her mother’s and grandmother’s art, Amy picked up the brush again. Amy has painted scenes based on her grandmother’s sketches and also Milla’s love of birds, which often appear in her work. Amy donates to Milla’s House with each sale of a painting featuring one of ‘Milla’s sparrows’.
